Portland Compressor is the only Ingersoll Rand dealer in Oregon and on of the largest Chicago Pneumatic compressor distributors in the United States. We provide sales, parts, accessories and service for these product lines as well as others. With nearly two dozen of us making things happen here at Portland Compressor, we pride ourselves on providing the same home-town service that got us off the ground in 1984. Portland Compressor is a rapidly growing company and is looking for the appropriate person to grow with us.
Position Overview
Portland Compressor has an immediate opening in our service department as a field service technician for an individual with experience in the industrial equipment industry. This position entails performing preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on industrial compressed air systems. The main responsibility is to perform diagnostics on malfunctioning air compressors by determining the causes for issues and perform those repairs based on the diagnosis.
Service van that goes home with you every night (after 3 months of employment). Tools Provided, Minimal overnight travel. Company cell phone and laptop provided. Overtime available but not required. Off the clock actually means off the clock - no being on call, no early/late customer phone calls, no late-night emergencies
General Responsibilities:
- Travel to customer job sites to troubleshoot and maintain industrial equipment, specifically piston and rotary screw air compressors, various types of air dryers and other air system components
- Perform diagnostics and determine causes for malfunctions on defective air compressor systems
- Provide failure analysis and equipment/system recommendations to improve reliability and/or performance
- Consult with and advise customers on compressed air equipment needs, maintenance, and repairs
- Technical assistance on equipment start-ups and installations
- Read and comprehend operational manuals, electrical schematics, and parts breakdowns
- Document service and installation activities by completing work orders for each job
- Maintaining service vehicle with proper equipment, tools, and parts to promote efficient, factory approved methods for servicing equipment.
- Other assignments may be given at the discretion of the management
Requirements and skills
- 2+ years of service work related to industrial equipment (compressed air, HVAC, vacuum etc..)
- Working knowledge of compressed air systems and associated components
- Knowledge of electrical diagrams and mechanical flow diagrams
- Experience with three phase electrical and plumbing systems (copper, aluminum) is a plus.
- Strong mechanical aptitude for industrial equipment
- Able to read wiring schematics and diagrams for all equipment.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver’s license and clean record
- A positive attitude and a dedication to learning – must be able to work independently and as part of a team
- The job requires frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs
Salary and Benefits
Hourly pay range is $25-40 per hour based on experience.
