High Pressure Hose Repair

One of the most common phone calls that our office receives is whether or not we can repair a broken pressure washer or airless paint sprayer hose. The immediate answer that you will always receive from any employee is NO. As a general rule, you never want to attempt to repair any high pressure hose, whether for water or paint.

Reasons for not repairing high pressure hoses:

  • Injection Injuries - Imagine you are using a paint sprayer, and spraying latex at 3000PSI. There is a leak at the end of the hose where it connects to the gun. You decide to solve this problem with duct tape. Take a guess at what might happen the second you put 3000 pounds of pressure back into the hose....It will blow the duct tape right off, and more than likely blow paint right into your face at 3000PSI. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know that this is a major safety issue. Whether you are using a paint sprayer or pressure washer, attempting to repair a high pressure hose could result in you injecting paint or water right into your skin, resulting in an immediate emergency room visit.
  • Flying or whipping hose - If you repair a hose with a bad fitting, and it blows off, what do you think will happen the second that it disconnects from your gun? You suddenly get 25'/50'/75' or more of hose flying all over the place spraying out paint or water at high pressure through the end of the hose. This will result in serious safety issues, and if you are using your paint sprayer, it will more than likely result in you losing a ton of material - costing you money.
  • Damaged Property - Similar to the flying hose scenario, a high pressure hose flinging around the room can result in the breaking of glass, equipment and other forms of property. Also, homeowner probably wouldn't be too happy with paint flying all around their home because their painting contractor didn't feel that the $40 hose was a good investment.
